What a terrible startup experience! if you make a mistake you can't go back and fix it. It scanned my license and showed our three cars. I tapped on my car to select it and it deleted it. To add it back I have to enter the VIN. And it doesnt show how to remove the other two cars. Just plows ahead with the barest functionality. I'm sure they think they're brilliant but these programmers obviously never heard of something called User Experience.

I've had a good experience with Root over the past few years, except for the fact that my rate seems to increase a few hundred dollars to at every 6 mo renewal. My rate started at around $385 and after say maybe 2 years, it's gone up to almost a grand!!! I added my husband to my plan, but neither of us have had any accidents or tickets! Definitely switching before my plan renews.

The app isn't accurately detecting when I'm driving or not. I'm about halfway through my test drive (12 days left with a 10/10 score!) and will occasionally notice the 'Root is Crunching Numbers!) notification will come up on it's own while I'm sitting in my house or walking. I'm pretty hard on my phone (tossing it on my bed etc) and have noticed this dropping my consistency score yet not my overall score. Love the app so far other than this one thing. Is there a fix for it? Thanks!

The app itself is ok. However their advertisement that "Root saves you money" is total BS! After driving around for over a month using the app it tells me that I'm a "perfect" driver per their test and guess what my insurance cost is exactly same as what I'm currently paying! Did not expect that especially when they make bold claims we go by driving habits and not credit history or anything else...

I like the idea of the app. But my experience with the test drive was disappointing. It starts you off with a 2-3 week test drive, it's different, but I understand why it's necessary for Root insurance. My score was a 9/10. I got to the end of the test drive and the app was stuck on "1-2 days left.. there seems to be a problem, contact cx service" I tried calling cs number 3 different times and the automated system seems to be on a loop so I was never able to speak to anyone or get a quote. It was a waste of time. Will be uninstalling app.

Worse coverage for more, and the app clearly could not tell when I was driving. I drive a very old large heavy diesel truck with a loaded trailer on a regular basis. Quick starts and stops are not even a consideration; neither is taking corners quickly. During the weeks evaluated, I recieved very poor rating for both. During one week I was out of town and carpooled everywhere (so I did no driving), but my score got worse. Update: Generic canned response by root. They can't adjust for app errors

seems like this app should still be in beta. the app wants to draw over every app and asks to be excluded from the battery saving option in your phone. there is no way to actually close the app and if it does close, it just reopens itself an hour or so later. the test drive part does not give options on when you want to start or stop driving. the referral stuff seems like a scam as I do not know of any one to actually receice a reward for referring a friend. good concept but needs a lot of work.

There's a lot that I like about the app and the company... but I'll tell you what I hate. When I'm trying to watch videos, text friends, or even surf the net, the app turns itself on and hogs all of my phone resources. Causing videos to lag and freeze, other apps to shut down and media texts to fail to send it be received. You can't turn it off once it's on and you have to hope it turns off sooner than later. Everything else about the app's usability is great.

I did really well on my driving test, got a 10/10 with perfect braking, and yet after my test drive was over, they bumped up my rate from $131 to $139 per month. I have no tickets or anything, but they still bumped up my rates, and I don't understand the point of the test drive if a perfect score also leads to a bump up in price. Wanted to save some money with root, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen
