Halo Studios has just offered fans a sneak peek at what could be a fresh addition to Halo Infinite’s arsenal. This potential new weapon may become the game’s second major gun introduction since launch, following the Bandit Rifle, and it’s got players buzzing with anticipation.
October 2024 has already been an exciting month for the Halo community. During the Halo World Championship 2024, where Spacestation Gaming claimed the world title, 343 Industries announced a transformative change: the studio is rebranding as Halo Studios. As part of a renewed focus on team culture and development speed, Studio Head Pierre Hintze also confirmed that future Halo games will be built using Unreal Engine 5, shifting away from the Slipspace Engine that powers Halo Infinite. This news left some players wondering about the future of Halo Infinite and its ongoing support.
Thankfully, Halo Studios isn’t ready to leave Halo Infinite fans behind just yet. As part of its upcoming Operation: Great Journey update, the studio shared a teaser trailer that hints at a possible new weapon.
The trailer, released on Halo’s official YouTube channel, is marked by Master Chief’s iconic line, “I Need a Weapon.” The teaser features a new UNSC weapon with a compact design and a shorter barrel than the typical MA40 Assault Rifle. Fans suspect this could be the MA5K Avenger, a streamlined submachine gun variant of the MA5B Assault Rifle popular with Spartan-IIIs and first introduced in the 2006 novel Ghosts of Onyx.
The possibility of a new weapon has energized the Halo community, although some players are cautiously optimistic, hoping it won’t simply be a new skin for an existing weapon. Halo Infinite launched with a smaller arsenal than previous games, prioritizing a finely-tuned weapon balance for competitive play.
So far, Halo Studios has only added the Bandit Rifle to Halo Infinite since its debut. Yet, recent leaks suggest more could be on the way. Data files have hinted that the MA5K Avenger might arrive alongside a Mutilator shotgun and the classic Covenant Fuel Rod Cannon, which could add even more variety to the game’s sandbox.
While Halo Studios has yet to confirm the addition of these new weapons, more details are expected to drop when Operation: Great Journey launches on November 5. In the meantime, players can enjoy the final days of Halo Infinite’s Halloween event, Operation: Halloween, featuring three new maps, a spooky Firefight mode, and a free 20-tier battle pass with the new Spartanstein armor set.
